Ajmal extended elbow by 40 degrees during testing

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — Suspended Pakistan offspinner Saeed Ajmal had an average elbow extension of more than twice the allowable limit during testing of his bowling action in Australia last month.
Ajmal recorded an astonishing 40 degrees with a relatively small standard deviation of 2.5 degrees at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane, according to the 23-page International Cricket Council report on the world's top-ranked bowler in one-day internationals.
The rules allow for an elbow extension of 15 degrees.
Ajmal was suspended on Tuesday by the ICC for a suspect action, putting in doubt his appearance at the World Cup in five months.
None of the deliveries by Ajmal during the eight overs of biomechanical testing — some overs were not of the usual six balls — came close to meeting regulations, the report said.
During testing, Ajmal bowled offspin from over and around the wicket, the doosra, and quicker balls.
Pakistan Cricket Board chief medical officer Dr. Sohail Salim attended the testing, during which Ajmal was monitored by 27 cameras, including two high-speed cinematic cameras and three high-speed mobile video cameras.
The experts were satisfied with Ajmal's replication of his suspected deliveries from when he was reported during the lost first test against Sri Lanka in Galle last month.
The assessment said Ajmal appeared to have hypermobility of the right wrist due to an earlier injury.
He was previously reported in 2009 for his doosra — a delivery that spins away from right-handed batsman — before he was cleared.
Pakistan, which will not appeal the suspension, will attempt to rehabilitate Ajmal at its National Cricket Academy in Lahore from Monday, and has gathered former leading bowlers, including offspinner Saqlain Mushtaq, to help. Pakistan will decide after three weeks whether to ask the ICC to reconsider the suspension.
The over-by-over testing:
1st: Over the wicket: Average elbow extension 39 degrees
2nd: Over the wicket: 37 degrees
3rd: Around the wicket: 41 degrees
4th: Around the wicket (wide of the crease): 41 degrees
5th: Around the wicket: 42 degrees
6th: Around the wicket, doosra: 40 degrees
7th: Around the wicket, quicker balls: 38 degrees
8th: Over the wicket, quicker balls: 42 degrees

Daring, tough and fiercely talented, Virat Kohli has emerged as one of the pack-leading faces of Indian cricket's current generation. With a firm-bottom hand grip and the ability to smash balls landing on a particular area to any part of the ground at will, Kohli has carved a niche of his own in Indian cricket. The king of chases as many of his fans have christened him, Kohli is a deeply hammered nail across all formats in the Indian national team.

Rahul Dravid Says ODI Cricket Is Struggling Without Context

Rahul Dravid said one-day cricket was on weak wicket and urged the powers-that-be to bring in some relevance to the 50-over-format.

File photo: Dravid, in his speech, said chucking was not a crime.

© AFPMumbai: Former India captain Rahul Dravid today said of the three formats of the game, ODI cricket at present was largely irrelevant and struggling to survive and consequently there should be more tournaments like Champions Trophy or World Cup to give it a proper context.

"I think one-day cricket is seriously struggling. One-day cricket, without a context, is struggling. One-day cricket, if you look at it from the point of view of Champions Trophy or the World Cup, is relevant," he said at an interactive session after delivering the 6th Dilip Sardesai Memorial Lecture here.
"I think all the other one-day cricket should actually be driven towards playing Champions Trophy and World Cup. I think there are meaningless one-day games and too many one day games can actually be a problem.
"So, that is something that can be cut off and people can play less one-day (bilateral) cricket and more ODI tournaments," Dravid said.
"When you have three formats of the game and playing 10 months a year and playing different tournaments, it is going to be harder and harder on players to manage the workload," the 41-year-old cricketer said.
Speaking about the proliferation of illegal bowling actions with highly successful Pakistan off-spinner Saaed Ajmal having recently banned for it, Dravid said 'chucking' was not a crime but a technical fault that can be corrected.
"The ICC has a rule in place. When they reviewed a lot of old film footage they actually found that having that elbow bent at 15 degrees was actually pretty normal. That is what everyone was doing. Glenn McGrath had a slight bend in his elbow but up to 15 degrees, so he was not chucking. They have a system in place.
"What I am really glad about is that they are enforcing it strictly and they are reviewing it. I give them the benefit of doubt. The ICC is being more vigilant and they are not saying that once you have cleared in 2009, you can't be checked again. So they have got to keep monitoring it and watching it closely and if bowlers develop different kinds of deliveries, then why not have them checked?"
"Personally I don't think you should see chucking as a crime. I think it is just a technical fault that people have and view it like that. You have a technical fault in your action, go out and correct it and come back," said the former Test batting stalwart.
"You have (bowled) a no-ball when you overstep the line and nobody says you are cheating. They say come back behind the line and here they say come back behind 15 degrees and play the game."
In the context of some Indian players being accompanied by wives and girlfriends during the Test series that they lost 1-3 to England, he said it should be allowed.
"The guys play 10 or 11 months a year. If you don't allow their wives or girlfriends on tour then that would be a bigger problem. I don't think you can start blaming wives or girlfriends for performance," he said, referring to the dismal run of Virat Kohli whose girlfriend was with him in England. (Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma to Tie the Knot? No, Says the Actress)
Though he scored five double Test hundreds and also got involved in a series-turning 376-run partnership with V V S Laxman against Australia at Kolkata in 2001 when he scored 180 and Laxman notched up 281, Dravid said he is more satisfied with his two half centuries in Kingston, Jamaica in the 2006 Test series against the West Indies.
"The two innings that gave me the most satisfaction were scoring those two fifties against West Indies in a Test match in Kingston in Jamaica, in 2006. The series was tied at 0-0 and I was captain of the side and was feeling a bit of pressure that India needed to win the series.
"We go into the last Test and we play on a terrible wicket and as soon as you looked at the wicket you knew this match wasn't going to last more than three days. I got a couple of fifties in that game and I think only (Ramnaresh) Sarwan got a 50 for West Indies in the second innings.
"When I look back on my career, I got a double hundred at Adelaide, I think scoring those two 50s in really difficult conditions and winning the Test match for India, probably gave me the most satisfaction."
Dravid felt today's youngsters should aim to play all the three formats of the game.
"I remember growing up I always wanted to be a Test cricketer. All the stories I heard were exploits in Test cricket. My father told me about (Sunil) Gavaskar's 776 runs (in his debut series in 1971 in the West Indies and GR Vishwanath's 96 (in Chennai against West Indies in 1975-76) and so I grew up in Bangalore hearing about Test cricket, that's how I grew up and that is how I played.
"One-day cricket was there and it was an after thought. After three days of Ranji cricket and at the end of the fourth day they would put in an ODI game against the same team and lot of times you would give the 13th, 14th and 15th person a chance," he said.
"It changed in 1996 and I realised I need to be good at this (one-day cricket) if I wanted to play for a long period of time. It was a transition for me and I had to learn how to adapt," said the "Wall", who played 344 ODIs and scored nearly 11,000 runs.
"Success in Test and ODI needs certain skills and abilities. If you do not possess these skills and abilities, you need to work on them," he added.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE T20 SQUADS.

final-15-man-squads
The 12 sides participating in the Champions League T20 2014 have announced their final 15-man squads for the cash rich international Twenty20 cricket tournament. The sixth edition of CLT20 just like their previous edition saw the star players opting to represent their IPL franchises than be a part of their local domestic sides. Just like the previous edition, the players were given relaxation over their choice between the IPL franchise and national domestic side. But players chose to go ahead with the IPL sides as the likes of Kieron Pollard, David Miller and Jacques Kallis, chose to represent their IPL franchises Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively.
Other players like New Zealand’s Corey Anderson and West Indian Dwayne Smith also went ahead with representing Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings than Northern Knights and Barbados Tridents. Australia’s George Bailey will again lead the Kings XI Punjab side. [Read: Champions League T20 2014 Schedule: All Match Fixtures and Complete Time Table of CLT20 2014]
“Like previous seasons, players who have been named by more than one team have been asked to nominate which side they are going to represent,” said Dean Kino, the CLT20 director of legal and business affairs and a member of its governing council. “Players are free to make any decision they wish. Teams are then allowed to replace any player that has withdrawn from their squad and elected to play for another side.
“CLT20 regulations state that when a player elects to play for their ‘away’ team, that team must pay the ‘home’ team US$ 150,000 compensation per player,” said Kino. Just for clarity on the matter, he went on to explain that the home team is the team from the country the player in question represents in international cricket.
The Champions League Twenty20 2014 kick-starts from September 13 and will end on October 4 with all theQualifying Stage matches are to be played in Raipur from September 13 to 16 with 12 teams. MUMBAI INDIANS NEWS

Kieron Pollard has been named Mumbai Indians captain for the Champions League Twenty20 after Rohit Sharma was ruled out with injuries. Pollard has been with Mumbai since 2010, but has not led the team before this tournament. He had been captain of Barbados Tridents, winners of the Caribbean Premier League this season.
Anil Kumble, the Mumbai team mentor, welcomed the appointment. "I am confident that Kieron with his varied experience and impressive track record, will rise to the occasion, and align the Mumbai Indians for a competitive performance," he said.
Mumbai's squad also includes Harbhajan Singh, who led them to the 2012 Champions League title, and Lasith Malinga, who was Sri Lanka's captain when they won the World T20 four months ago, but a press release sent out by the franchise said Pollard was the "automatic choice" to lead in Rohit's absence.
Pollard has played 96 games for Mumbai, in which he has scored 1778 runs at a strike rate of 144.31, and taken 53 wickets.
Rohit has been replaced by Sushant Marathe in the squad

Defending champions Mumbai Indians should consider themselves lucky to be competing in the sixth edition of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) after they picked up their performance in the later half of IPL 7 to finish fourth and get an entry into the CLT20 qualifying round.
Mumbai, in order to enter the main stage of the league, will face Lahore Lions, Northern Knights and Southern Express in the Qualifiers. With the CLT20 being played this time in India, Mumbai will have an edge over others being familiar with the home conditions. Should Mumbai qualify, they may be clubbed in Group B of the main round comprising Kings XI Punjab, Cape Cobras, Hobart Hurricanes and Barbados Tridents.
CLT20 has been a happy hunting ground for Mumbai having won the league twice (2011 and 2013), but this time around their campaign would be tough, though as a team they look none less than title contenders.
CLT20: Potential title contenders Mumbai Indians face qualifying hurdle

Holders Mumbai Indians won't start as favourites in this edition of CLT20 but have the potential and team to go the distance.

However, Mumbai have already hit a roadblock before the start of the tournament as their captain Rohit Sharma may miss out due to a finger injury he sustained on India's tour of England. Kieron Pollard might lead the team in his absence, but that decision is yet to be taken by the team management.
Bu the Mumbai outfit got a shot in the arm despite Rohit's injury when their overseas player Lasith Malinga, Corey Anderson and Pollard decided to play for their IPL team.
Key players: Pollard as a player brings energy to the team and his all-round skills on the field are an added asset. He would be an ideal choice as captain if Rohit fails to recover in time because Pollard has the experience of leading Barbados Tridents in the Carribean Premier League.
The second player in the team to watch out for would be slinger Malinga, who is a plus for any team in this format. His variations, toe-crushing yorkers in slog overs are handy any day.
Strengths: In the IPL, Mumbai, after Chennai Super Kings, is be the only side to not tamper much with the core group of players and therein lies their big strength. Moreover, with power-hitters like Anderson, Lendl Simmons, Michael Hussey and Pollard, Mumbai have a balanced batting line-up.
The success of every team is also attributed to the support staff and Mumbai have a great one headed by coach John Wright with positive contributions from former legspinner Anil Kumble. Both of them have done well to manage the talent pool in the squad.
Weaknesses: Mumbai can be slow starters at times, just like in their campaign in IPL 7. At the start they kept losing matches on the trot but somehow bounced back in the later half to finish fourth on the points table. But having to play the Qualifiers doesn't give them the luxury to settle down, so they need to fire right from the start.
If Rohit misses out, then that would be a big minus but other batsmen in the team have the ability to make up for his absence. Mumbai's bowling, especially the pace attack, lacks teeth as Malinga hardly gets support from the other end. Young Jasprit Bumrah features regularly in the eleven but due to inexperience sometimes sprays the ball all over.
Among others, old warhorses Harbhajan and Hussey will be the men to watch out for, along with power-hitting Anderson.
Though Mumbai have a nervous qualifiers to go through, one can put his money on the two-time champions to reach the main round and then take it from there.
Squad: Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu, Pragyan Ojha, Praveen Kumar, Aditya Tare, Jalaj Saxena, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Gopal, Mike Hussey, Kieron Pollard, Corey Anderson, Lasith Malinga, Marchant De Lange, Lendl Simmons
